Mangalpady Grama Panchayat is a prominent local body situated in the northernmost part of Kerala, along the border zone of Kasaragod district. Serving as a vital hub for cultural and linguistic exchanges between Kerala and Karnataka, this region has been renowned since ancient times for trade, fishing, and agriculture.

Historical and Cultural Heritage

Historically, the Mangalpady region deeply imbibed the socio-cultural influences of South Canara (Dakshina Kannada). Reflecting this rich heritage, languages such as Tulu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Beary are widely spoken here today. Formation and Local Governance

Mangalpady Grama Panchayat was officially established following the reorganization of states in the 1950s and the subsequent expansion of the Panchayati Raj system in Kerala. Over the decades, the Panchayat has played a pivotal and decisive role in driving rural development, public health, education, agricultural growth, the modernization of the fisheries sector, and the implementation of clean drinking water and road connectivity projects.
